Behavioral Medicine

Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine’s Division of Behavioral Medicine within the Department of Preventive Medicine develops and implements behavioral interventions to promote and maintain healthy lifestyles.  Behavioral medicine is a cross-cutting and swiftly growing field, as researchers, policymakers, and medical professionals increasingly examine lifestyle patterns in an effort to understand, prevent, and treat disease.  Unhealthy lifestyle patterns, such as unhealthy diet, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, unsafe sex practices, unprotected sun exposure, and depression are among commonly known risk factors for diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cardiac disease, and HIV.  Drawing together experts from clinical psychology, kinesiology, nutrition, public health, and medicine, the Division of Behavioral Medicine combines cutting-edge technology and research with best clinical practices to address such precursors to disease.
