Cardiovascular Lifetime Risk Pooling Project

Principal Investigator: Donald Lloyd-Jones, MD, ScM, FACC, FAHA

The overall objective of this project is to pool multiple large US-based epidemiologic cohort studies, including more than 500,000 individuals, to generate robust estimates of lifetime risks for cardiovascular disease (CVD), and to compare lifetime risks for CVD between different race/ethnic groups. This project will also help to refine long-term risk estimation for cardiovascular disease (and other diseases) according to risk factor burden and in the context of competing risks. The resulting data on lifetime risks for CVD will be useful in estimating the population burden of CVD now and in the future, in comparing lifetime risks for CVD and other common diseases within and between race/ethnic groups, and in enhancing risk communication and selecting higher-risk individuals for early intervention.
