Principal Investigator: David C. Mohr, PhD

Project Director: Joyce Ho, PhD

05/01/07 - 04/31/12

Purpose of Study

To compare cognitive behavioral therapy for depression conducted over the telephone to cognitive behavioral therapy conducted face-to-face.

Only patients of Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation and Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group are eligible.

We are looking for NMFF patients who:

- are currently depressed
- are NOT currently receiving psychotherapy
- have access to a telephone
- can come to Northwestern School of Medicine in downtown Chicago for psychotherapy
- can speak and read English

What we will ask participants to do if they are eligible:

- Receive eighteen 45-minute sessions of cognitive behavioral therapy, free of charge, with a well-trained, doctoral-level psychologist. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive cognitive behavioral therapy conducted over the telephone or face-to-face.
- Complete 9 telephone interviews and questionnaires about lifestyle and mood. These assessments are conducted during the treatment phase, and for 12 months after treatment is completed.

How much will participants get paid?

- Between $15-30 for each completed interview and questionnaires. There are a maximum of 9 evaluation sessions, so participants can get paid up to $200 for their participation.

Who should potential participants contact to find out more?

- Call 312-503-0414, or email health@northwestern.edu
