Faculty Positions ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR – TENURE TRACK IN CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE EPIDEMIOLOGY DEPARTMENT OF PREVENTIVE MEDICINE NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY – FEINBERG SCHOOL OF MEDICINE The Department of Preventive Medicine of Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine seeks highly qualified applicants to conduct epidemiologic studies and/or clinical trials in the area of cardiovascular disease research. This full time position is at the tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor level. The Department has had long-standing success in conducting high-quality epidemiologic cardiovascular research, and activities in this area have continued to expand. Additional faculty/investigators are needed in order to pursue several long-planned research projects including but not limited to epidemiologic and genetic research in cardiovascular disease. The Department specifically seeks faculty/investigators with prior experience and interest in cardiovascular genetic epidemiology research in cohort studies, such as candidate gene studies, genome-wide association studies, and/or gene-expression profiling studies. The successful candidate will initially share responsibilities for several on-going federally funded studies, but will also be expected to develop independent research projects, serving as the Principal Investigator of his/her own grants/contracts.
Applicants must have a M.D. or a Ph.D. in relevant fields (e.g., Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Molecular Biology, or Genetics). Experience in conducting cardiovascular epidemiologic studies or clinical trials in the area of genetic research is required. The full time position is based in the Feinberg School of Medicine on the Chicago lakefront campus. Primary academic appointment would be in the Department of Preventive Medicine. For MDs, a secondary appointment in the Department of Medicine with some clinical responsibilities is possible. Salary is commensurate with experience and duties. This full time position is at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level. The Department has long-standing success in conducting high-quality epidemiologic cardiovascular research and in developing novel biostatistical methods that assist in such research. Additional faculty/investigators are needed in order to pursue several research projects including but not limited to epidemiologic, genetic and prevention research in cardiovascular disease. The Department specifically seeks experienced faculty/investigators with a strong theoretical biostatistics background, and prior experience in epidemiological research in cohort studies. Additional expertise in biostatistical methods related to genetic epidemiology is not required but is a plus. The successful candidate will be expected to develop independent statistical methodologic or epidemiologic projects as the Principal Investigator as well as be a co-investigator on current and future federally funded studies. The Department has a Program in Biostatistics consisting of 11 faculty biostatisticians who provide a collegial biostatistical environment with a history of mentoring junior faculty biostatisticians. The full time position is based in the Feinberg School of Medicine on the Chicago lakefront campus. Association with the Department of Statistics on the Evanston campus is a possibility.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Biostatistics or Statistics. Experience in biostatistics methodology research or epidemiologic studies is required. Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team are essential. Primary academic appointment would be in the Department of Preventive Medicine. The Department of Preventive Medicine and the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine are recruiting an Associate/Professor level faculty member to lead research and education efforts in cancer epidemiology. The Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of the National Cancer Institute’s designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers. The Department of Preventive Medicine is comprised of nationally and internationally recognized faculty with expertise in biostatistics, epidemiology, behavioral medicine, nutrition and exercise. The Cancer Center has an already established and dynamic prevention and control program, involving a variety of prevention and control scientists. The Medical School recognizes this as an important area for further development. We seek a full-time M.D. or Ph.D. with an outstanding academic background and record of externally funded investigation for this position. The successful candidate will be either a population scientist with interest in cancer epidemiology or prevention, or a clinician-scientist with focus in cancer prevention and control. This position requires strong administrative, communication and leadership skills, willingness to be a mentor for junior faculty in epidemiology and preventive medicine and proven willingness to collaborate in clinical translational research efforts.
